New Entrance Signage

Vibrant new signage has appeared at the entrances to Emu Park delivering the “Reuse Reduce Recycle” message to motorists coming into town, and reminding people of the Emu Park Lions monthly markets.  The signage is located adjacent to the Emu Park School and on Pattison Street opposite the RSL village.

You may not have noticed the previous signage in recent times as it was suffering much deterioration becoming cracked and faded after many years making it difficult to read.  The new aluminium composite panel signs with extra UV resistant protective coatings applied should prove much more durable.

Emu Park Lions organised the removal, construction and erection of the new signage and they wish to acknowledge and thank the Livingstone Shire Council for funding provided under their Community Grants Scheme for this project.

Family Fun at Emu Park

Emu Park will be the place for families on Sunday 14th April 2019 with plenty of fun activities on offer when the Emu Park Lions host the Triple M CQs Festival of the Wind.

The festival has been growing each year attracting thousands of people to enjoy a fantastic day of outdoor activities. Start the day at 8am wandering through the Park’s biggest market of the year before making your way through festival activities that will culminate with the Bendigo Bank’s monster fireworks display just after sunset.

Look to the skies to see the colourful array of kites of all shapes and sizes being flown by world class professionals that travel from throughout Australia for this event. Fly your own kite alongside the professionals who can offer advice on kite flying techniques. There will be a kit kite workshop where your own kite can be made. New look kit kites are available this year with prizes awarded for best decorated in (3) categories (up to grade 2; 3-4; & open).

Enjoy the carnival atmosphere with rides, games, face painting, entertainment and plenty of food and drink available. Entertainment will include Daniel Miller, the Rockhampton Pipe Band, the Irish/Scottish Dancers and Shawazza. Or, wander down to Fisherman’s Beach for lots more activities. There will be blokarts and sail boats to try with guidance from the experts and a flare demonstration by local Coastguard members.

Try your hand at sand sculpturing – competition entry is free and you just might win a prize. Or, form a team of (4) and enter the wacky beach games that will be a test of your co-ordination and skills. Prize monies will go to the winning teams’ nominated charities in (2) categories: over 16s prizes: 1st – $1000; 2nd – $600; 3rd $400 & under 16s prizes: 1st – $400; 2nd – $200; 3rd – $100. Don’t miss the opportunity to win one of the great prizes donated by The Hideaway GKI, The Rainforest Ranch Retreat Byfield, Sandcastles 1770 and Freedom Fast Cats. Buy a ticket in the raffle that will be drawn at the festival.

Festival co-ordinator Jackie Senior praised sponsors and thanked community volunteers for assisting the Lions in the running of the festival and invited families to come to the beach to enjoy a wonderful day’s activities. It’s a great atmosphere and there really is something for everyone. Just come and be care free and enjoy the age old pleasure of kite flying.

Emu Park Kite Festival

Kites were flying high and taking over the sky at Emu Park for the Triple M CQ’s Festival of the Wind. The festival hosted annually by the Lions Club of Emu Park was held on Sunday, 14th April at Bell & Peace Parks and Fisherman’s Beach, Emu Park.

Festival Co-ordinator, Jackie Senior, says “kite flying is one of life’s simple pleasures no matter what your age. It’s something for the whole family to enjoy. If you are not flying a kite you can just feast your eyes on the myriad of kites of all colours, shapes and sizes dancing in the sky, watching them duck and dive amidst the winds.”

Talk to one of our world class professional kite fliers from Queensland, New South Wales, Canberra, South Australia or Tasmania who will be there to show off their kites and kite handling skills.

Jackie says after the soaring success of last year’s festival the Lions are again expecting throngs of people to descend upon Emu Park for a wonderful family day out. Markets start at 8:00am & festival activities at 10:00am. The festival is an alcohol free event specifically designed for family entertainment.

Festival goers can meander through one of Emu Park’s largest markets of the year or enjoy other activities including live entertainment, carnival rides, sand sculpting, making your own kit kite to fly, colouring competition, a flare display by the Yeppoon Coast Guard, or for the more adventurous, try out a blokart along the beach or try your hand at sailing. There will also be a variety of food and drinks available.

“We are also seeking teams of (4) to enter our wacky beach games” says Jackie. There are (2) categories – under 16s & over 16s – FREE ENTRY. There will be lots of fun and laughter as competitors try to navigate each leg of the games. Prize monies will be awarded to winning teams’ nominated charities. Contact Ellie on 0429384806 to register your team.

Great prizes for the raffle have been donated by The Hideaway GKI, The Rainforest Ranch Retreat Byfield, Sandcastles 1770 all offering (2) nights accommodation for two and Freedom Fast Cats with an adventure trip for two. So don’t forget your raffle tickets that will be drawn at the festival.

A fitting end to the day’s festivities will be the Bendigo Bank’s monster fireworks display when spectators will be awed by the wonderful array of fireworks.

Pet owners are advised to keep their animals locked up during the fireworks display to keep them safe.

Hill Street, east of Emu Street to Fisherman’s Beach, will be closed for the duration of the festival to ensure the safety of patrons.

Jackie praised sponsors and volunteers for their valued support of the Triple M CQ’s Festival of the Wind and urged everyone to take time out of their usual routine to bring the family to come fly a kite with us at Emu Park!
